What is infertility?

Infertility is a common issue that can have various underlying causes. To diagnose the reason for infertility and select the most appropriate treatment approach, it’s necessary to conduct several tests. Below are some of these tests and methods for treating infertility:

Infertility tests in women:

Blood tests: To check the levels of various hormones such as FSH, LH, estradiol, and progesterone, which play a role in regulating menstruation and ovulation.
Ultrasound: To examine the structure of the uterus and ovaries and detect problems such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, or endometriosis.
Hysterosalpingography (HSG): An X-ray procedure used to check if the fallopian tubes are open.
Laparoscopy: a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which a doctor uses a thin tube inserted through a small incision in the abdomen to examine the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes.

Infertility tests in men:

Sperm analysis: To check the number, movement, and shape of sperm.
Blood tests: To check the levels of male hormones like testosterone.
Ultrasound: To examine the structure of the testicles and prostate.

Infertility treatment:

Infertility treatment depends on its cause. Some infertility treatment methods include:

Medications: To stimulate ovulation in women or increase sperm production in men.
IUI (Intrauterine Insemination): In this method, washed and prepared sperm are directly injected into the woman’s uterus.
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization): In this method, eggs and sperm are combined in a laboratory, and after embryos form, they are transferred into the woman’s uterus.
Surgery: To correct problems such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, or blocked fallopian tubes.

It is important to understand that infertility treatment is a complex process and may require patience and follow-up. Also, the choice of appropriate treatment method depends on your specific circumstances and the cause of infertility. Therefore, it is recommended to consult a gynecologist or urologist to diagnose the cause of infertility and choose the best treatment method.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that in addition to medical treatments, lifestyle changes can also be effective in improving fertility. Some of these changes include:

Healthy diet: Consuming healthy and varied foods and avoiding processed and unhealthy foods.
♦Regular exercise: Engaging in regular and balanced exercise.
Stress reduction: Managing stress and anxiety.
Avoiding smoking and alcohol: Consumption of tobacco and alcohol can negatively affect fertility.

Unexplained Infertility:

Unexplained infertility, also known as idiopathic infertility, can be very tiring and frustrating. In these situations, couples do not find any specific reason for their infertility after undergoing all tests and examinations. However, this does not mean that there is no problem; rather, there may be issues that are still unknown or cannot be identified with current diagnostic methods.

When faced with unexplained infertility, there are various treatment options available, some of which are mentioned below:

Waiting and Monitoring: In some cases, the doctor may advise the couple to try to conceive naturally for a period of time while being monitored. During this time, pregnancy may occur spontaneously.
Empirical Treatments: Even though the cause of infertility is not clear, some treatments may be prescribed empirically for the couple. These treatments can include ovulation-stimulating drugs, IUI (Intrauterine Insemination), or IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization): IVF is one of the most effective treatments for infertility and can be successful even in cases of unexplained infertility. In this method, eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory, and after embryos form, they are transferred into the woman’s uterus.
Lifestyle Changes: Lifestyle changes can help improve fertility in some couples. These changes can include the following:
Healthy diet: Consuming healthy and varied foods and avoiding processed and unhealthy foods.
♦ Regular exercise: Engaging in regular and balanced exercise.
♦Stress reduction: Managing stress and anxiety.
Avoiding smoking and alcohol: Consumption of tobacco and alcohol can negatively affect fertility.
Psychological Support: Infertility can place a significant psychological burden on couples. Receiving support from family, friends, and support groups can be very helpful in these situations.
Acceptance and Decision-Making: Ultimately, couples should decide on the continuation of treatment or the selection of other methods based on their circumstances and with full awareness of the available options.

It is important to remember that unexplained infertility does not mean hopelessness, and many couples eventually become pregnant despite this diagnosis. In this journey, patience, follow-up, and mutual support are very important.

In conclusion, it is recommended to consult with a gynecologist or urologist for a more detailed examination of your situation and to choose the best treatment method.
